Our new graduate account executive, Becky Archer, tells us about her first week at Papillon and the learning journey she’s about to embark on after completing her degree in Journalism…
The first day of my new job came around so quickly. After only graduating in September, I was now in full time employment. I was extremely happy and so grateful to be given a job at Papillon PR, but I did feel anxious. Never having had a full time job before, my mind was constantly swarmed with unnerving queries and worries; am I going to enjoy it? Will I be good at it? Will everyone like me?
As I drove to work on Monday morning, I did feel happy to be starting a new job, yet I couldn’t shake the nerves away. I pulled into the drive and began to walk towards the office, my mind began to fill with those anxious thoughts, again. Then, I walked into the office and everyone greeted me and were extremely welcoming. I was introduced to everyone and shown around the office, before being shown to my own desk! As soon as I sat down, reality had hit me; I actually have a job.
The first day, as with any first day, involved lots of introductions; learning more about Papillon, understanding their clients and what we do for them. My day was full of new information, all of which I tried my very best to remember. I have learnt from my first week that writing down everything that you need to do, or if you learn something new, helps tremendously. I will definitely be making a lot of to do lists.
The day flew by. By the time I got home, I was exhausted and spent the evening relaxing. An early night was definitely required. I had learnt lots of new things, and I knew that I had so much more to learn.
I learnt so much in my first week. I began to understand the business in more detail and spent time helping everyone out with tasks. I got to talk to everyone individually and to know them better. Even though I have only just started, I can already see how much time and effort everyone puts into each client. From what I can see and hear from my desk, I’ve realised that everyone has a great relationship with each client, which I have learnt is vital. Not only that, everyone gets along so well and I am grateful that I am a part of it.
After my first week, I was exhausted, however I don’t think it could have gone any better. Everyone was lovely, just what I needed after feeling nervous. The week flew by; meaning that it was a busy yet enjoyable week. Everyone at Papillon is lovely and so welcoming and I am extremely lucky to be working with them. I couldn’t have asked for a better first week and I’m eager to see what happens next.
