Thanks to a major refurb to the tune of £1.3 million, The White Hart is back in business and sitting pretty once more in the heart of the Georgian town of Ampthill in Bedford.
This stunning Grade 2 listed building had stood empty for a considerable number of years after various tenants tried and failed to make it as a bar, a nightclub and even a Chinese restaurant. These multi-use years resulted in a tired space conflicted from a design and construction aspect, and an overall eyesore. As such, it required a hefty investment from any future tenant - a difficult find in such hard economic times, particularly within the pub and leisure industry. In 2014, however, its potential proved too hard to ignore for up and coming Pubco, Oakman Inns & Restaurants, who picked up the project on the proviso of investment from owners, Punch Taverns.
